Bermuda Grass Mowing Practices
Scalping in Early Spring: We recommend scalping Bermuda grass in March before it greens up. This helps remove dead thatch, allowing new growth to emerge faster.
Scalping Height: If using a reel mower, Bermuda can be cut as low as ¼ inch. If using a rotary mower, scalp it down to ½ inch.
Growing Season Maintenance: Keep Bermuda mowed short in the spring and gradually increase the mowing height as summer heat intensifies.
Final Summer Height: Raise the mower every few cuts, finishing the season between 2-3 inches.
Reel Mower Option: If maintaining a golf-course quality lawn, a reel mower can be used to keep Bermuda between ½ inch to 1 inch, but it requires cutting every day to avoid scalping.
Key Tip: Always use sharp mower blades for a clean cut and avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass blade at a time.
Zoysia Grass Mowing Practices
